Eggs

The female butterflies are approximate laid 290 to 1180 eggs on the underside of the leaf of a milkweed plant. They mostly lay eggs during the spring and summer months. The eggs are

This Monarch Butterfly eggs are cream-colored or light green with ovate to conical in shape. It is about 1.2×0.9 mm in size and less than 0.5 mg weight. After 3 to 8 days the larva or caterpillars are hatching from the eggs.

Larvae

There is basically five main part of larvae growth stages or instar. The caterpillar is completely growing in the fifth stage. The final stage caterpillars are 25 to 45 mm long and 5 to 8 mm wide. In the first stage, the larva is 2 to 6 mm long and 0.5 to 1.5 mm wide. The final caterpillars are increased 2000 times from the first stage larvae.

Pupa

The pupa is also called as a chrysalis. The caterpillar is cover with the silk pad onto a horizontal substrate. The pupa hangs on the plant branch like the upside down and it looks like as the”J” letter.

After some day they remove their silk skin from the body. In this stage, the adult butterfly is growing inside the silk skin.  The exoskeleton becomes transparent before open and the adult butterfly color is finally seen in the transparent skin.
